ABOUT.

CHALLENGE.

Google is the globally famous MNC that specialises in Internet-related services and products. Their mission is to organise information in a universally accessible and useful way.

A stand alone team building activity to bring an end to yearly conference. The purpose of this exercise was to bring together the team, comprising 110 senior management position holders from different locations as well as as divisions. The organisation was looking to take part in activities that would help the team work towards a single goal, encourage innovation in the workplace as well as participate in something creative and enjoyable.

SOLUTION.

  1. Once the internal conference came to an end, the team headed to the ground with the last activity scheduled. As the program was for the outdoors, the team had to gather at a ground, which was very close to a lake, inside the hotel the team stayed at. The lakeside seemed like a perfect stimulant for creativity and energy. The team seemed very excited for what was going to happen.

For the ‘Chain Reaction’ activity, the team was divided into smaller groups. Each of them were provided with a box of assorted materials, idea cards as well as a game board. Every team had to develop the simple machines illustrated on the idea card and then connect them in the form of a chain. When all teams were done with their respective chains, they would come together and connect their individual chains together, for a larger series. Joining all the machines together and successful working of the long chain.

OUTCOME.

n spite of this not being a full fledged training program, the activity targets some objectives, which were deemed successful on completion. The coming together of members from different departments as well as geographical locations, working as a cross functional team and achieving a single goal. Finding creative ways to tackle the problem at hand, like in this activity was the assembling of the simple machines and constrained materials available. By the end, the team was much more connected than ever, which is crucial especially when working at different locations worldwide. This activity was a reminder of the importance of teamwork and the power of experiential learning.
