SOLUTION.
On the first day of the training program, there was an internal business alignment discussion, where the senior leadership addressed the Sembcorp team. The second day started with an ice-breaker activity, as it is crucial for the team members to get to know one another before the training program progresses. Following this interaction, there were a series of activities lined up for the entire day. Debriefs were conducted after each activity so that the team members could discuss their thoughts and outcomes from it. The final debrief at the end of the entire program calls for members to mention any 2 takeaways from the training they will implement at their workplace.
Out of the many activities planned for the day, most of the team members found ‘Bamboo Bridge’ the most beneficial and eye-opening. The team was regrouped into smaller teams and each of them had to create a bridge with limited materials in hand. Finally, all the teams put together their bridges so that they could create one long, functional bridge.
OUTCOME.
It is very important for an organisation’s employees to be clear about what the company’s goals and strategies are. It is equally critical for the employees to understand their roles in the company’s progress so that they are driven to deliver their best. Working as a team, it is imperative to remain connected and collaborate successfully, both of which require a strong team bonding. All of these were the rationale behind the Sembcorp setting up this training program.
Throughout the experiential learning program, the team was very motivated and engaged with the activities that were conducted. The changes in the team dynamic were very evident by the end of the day.
