Collaboration
A cohesive team of individuals working towards one single goal for success.
Collaboration is the coming together of a group of individuals so as to work towards the same goal. Collaboration can prove to be beneficial. When you have different individuals looking at the same thing, they all look at it differently. Each one will focus on different aspects due to their different backgrounds. This allows for more ideas to arise, providing more solutions to the same problem. Since each person has different strengths and weaknesses, one can learn from another. Collaboration can lead to self-reflection, which can further lead to effective personality development, proving beneficial to the entire workplace. Different perspectives from the different team members gives rise to multi-perspective individuals.
Continuous collaboration and discussions helps individuals strengthen relationships and gow a sense of belonging. Increase in team spirit helps grow a sense of belonging leading to individuals feelings valued and taking ownership. This also leads to much more open and effective communication among the team.
It is evident how important collaboration in the workplace is but in order to instill it, the leader must lead by example. This must start with acknowledging and respecting and open to everyone’s presence and ideas.
Essentially, collaboration is about maximizing the success of the a team- more people, a higher chance of greater ideas.
When groups of people get together and work on something, they realise their position and especially their contribution to the larger cause, increasing personal satisfaction and boosting morale, especially in remote teams. Collaborative tools like Google Hangouts, docs, sheets, Skype, Zoom and many others help keep the collaboration going.
